Vigo & Pontevedra Immersion 2014: DÍA 8: COCINAR A LA ESPAÑOLA & LA CIUDAD DE PONTEVEDRA

Hoy tuvimos que despertarnos muy temprano para ir al colegio de los estudiantes del intercambio. Yo me desperté tarde pero no era un gran problema porque Andrea también iba tarde. Ella y su madre hablaron un poco y después nos fuimos al colegio en autobús. Nosotros fuimos a un instituto de Carlos Oroza para aprender a cocinar comida española y gallega. Por ejemplo, pan tostado con jamón serrano y tomate. También preparamos pinchos de pulpo, gambas, y rape. Además aprendimos preparar ensaladas y salsas como la mayonesa. Yo aprendí mucho sobre la comida gallega y comí muy bien también.

Today we had to wake up very early in order to go to school with our host siblings. I woke up late but it wasn’t a problem because Andrea was also late. She and her mom spoke a little and then we went to school on the bus. We went to the Carlos Oroza Culinary Institute to learn about Spanish and Galician food. For example, we prepared pieces of baguette with tomato and jamón serrano. We also prepared kabobos with shrimp, octopus, and monkfish. In addition, we learned to prepare salads and sauces like home made mayo. I learned a lot about Galician food and I ate very well.

Luego fuimos en un tour por la ciudad de Pontevedra. Es una ciudad muy bella y tiene una historia muy antigua e interesante. Es de la época Romana y tiene un puente romano. Vimos una estatua de un hombre muy fuerte que se parecía a Peter. Jajaja!!!! Hacia muchísimo calor pero nosotros nos mantuvimos a la sombra. Vimos una plaza que tenía 10 escudos. Algunos eran muy elaborados!!!

Afterwards, we went on a tour of Pontevedra. It is a small beautiful city that has a long and interesting history. It dates back to the Romans and even has a Roman bridge. We saw a statue that of a man that looked like Peter. Hahaha!!! It was very hot; however we stayed in the shade so it wasn’t’ too bad. We visited a plaza that had 10 coats of arms on the building walls. Some were very extravagant.

A las 18h00, nosotros conducimos al colegio otra vez para reunirnos con nuestras familias. Decidimos ir a un parque y jugamos fútbol para practicar para nuestro gran partido de fútbol que será mañana contra los españoles. Yo jugué fútbol con todo el grupo y después baloncesto con Elias, el hermano de Aman. Mucha gente se fue del parque pero yo me quede con Chris, Miguel, Aman, Elias, Cindy, Celia, Ryan, y Clara. El agua estaba muy fría por eso yo no me bañé pero algunos otros chicos lo hicieron. Cindy me tiró arena a mi y yo la tiré a ella en el mar para enseñarle a ella que soy el jefe. Jajaja!!! Cuando terminamos, la madre de Miguel me llevo a mi casa y yo me duche antes de la cena. Comimos a las 21h45. Hable con Andrea sobre el ingles y su viaje a los EE. UU en Septiembre. Comimos una pizza extraña que tenía jamón serrano y melón. Nunca había popado algo similar, pero estaba bien. Después de la cena Vicky me ensenó a mi como se dice “I’m full” –estoy lleno.

At 6:00pm, we drove back to school to meet up with our families. We decided to go to a park and play soccer in order to practice for the big soccer game that we will play tomorrow against the Spaniards. I played soccer with the whole group and then basketball with Elias, Aman’s host siblings. Many of the students left the park but I stayed with Chris, Miguel, Aman, Elias, Cindy, Celia, Ryan, ad Clara. The wáter was very cold so I decided not to jump in; however other students went for a swim. While we were hanging out, Cindy through sand at me so I through her into the water to show her I was the boss. Hahaha!!! When we finished, Miguel’s mom drove me home and I took a shower. We ate at 9:45pm. Andrea and I spoke about English and her trip to the USA in September. We ate a strange pizza that had jamón serrano and cantaloupe on it. I had never eaten something similar but it was preety good. After dinner Vicky taught me how to say I’m full.
